Michelle Dick lives on the north shore of Kauai, finding endless inspiration in it's people, culture and natural beauty. Having worked in ceramics, oils, pen & ink, and stained glass, she has discovered her purest expression in the art of scratchboard. Scratchboard consist of a hardboard panel, covered with a smooth layer of white kaolin clay. The artist applies india ink to the clay surface and then, by the use of various knives, engraves through the ink. The image appears out of the darkness as Michelle engraves with fine, jewel-like detail, dramatic contrast, and an exploration of the illusions of three dimensionality. The images on this web site are not high resolution and do not reflect the true detail of the high resolution reproductions.
NaPali Art Gallery is proud to exclusively offer reproductions of Michelle's scratchboard art and an extensive selection of originals.
